1) to formally choose (someone) as a candidate for a job, position, office, etc.
2) to choose (someone or something) as a candidate for receiving an honor or award
I was alerted last week by Natalie at Gossett Girl that she nominated me for my first Liebster Award! I learned from Natalie that the Liebster Award name comes from the German word meaning dearest (what a sweetie!) and is given from bloggers to fellow bloggers with fewer than 200 followers (I definitely qualify considering I probably have 7 readers?). Hopefully this will be a great way for me to network with my fellow bloggers and maybe even gain some new readers. Thanks again to Natalie for nominating me (and an additional thank you for my new blog header -- it looks great!).
Here are the rules for receiving this award:
-Thank your nominator by linking back to their blog- Thank you Gossett Girl!
-Answer 10 questions posed by your nominator
-Nominate 5 or more bloggers, who have less than 200 followers, for the award
-Create 10 questions for your nominees to answer
-Notify your nominees
Ten questions for me:
Why do you blog?
I started keeping a blog for two reasons. The first reason is to keep in touch with my friends who are all over. After going to a small, private college in Michigan (that draws students from all 50 states and beyond), I developed closed friendships with people from everywhere! Plus, some of my ambitious besties from growing up have moved on beyond Seattle and I want to keep in touch! As much as I don't think social media should replace a good old fashioned "phone date", a blog is a great way to update you friends on fun happenings in your life (in between phone dates of course). Then second reason is because I really just love to write. After I graduated college I thought to myself -- I will never have to sit down and write again. I knew I needed to find a way to continue to write and a blog seemed like just the thing.
What are you currently obsessed with?
Other than the Seahawks, there are a couple of things I that have me right now. As the leaves have turned and autumn has crept up on us, I have become obsessed with scarves: all shapes, styles, and textures. It is a serious obsession -- just ask my coworkers, I have worn a scarf every day this week (my current favorite is my Lululemon Vinyassa Scaf!). Also, I am obsessing over Vitamin C! There are some nasty bugs going around and I am definitely trying to avoid them. And last but not least my Lana del Ray Pandora station (it definitely keeps me motivated at work!).
If you had a few more hours in the day, what would you spend the time doing?
If there were more hours in the day, I would plan more "friend dates". I love catching up with friends (or meeting up with a new one!), chatting about what is new in their lives and filling them in with my news. Being an extrovert, I crave social scenarios and I get energy from spending time with other people.
What are your plans for your next vacation?
This is a great question and its totally up in the air. I love having a vacation on the books and right now I don't have anything (other than my jaunt down to Portlandia to see Macklemore in a few weeks!), so I have been craving a vacation plan. Right now I am really intrigued with visiting Iceland -- there are non-stop flights available!
Best piece of advice you've received in life?
The best advice I have ever received, is embodied in three short words: be here now. So many times when I was away for college I would wish it was winter break or wish it was a Friday because Monday always came too quickly. You should never wish you time away. Spend every moment by being present. As hokey as it sounds, right now is a gift which is why they call it the present.
Favorite recipe?
Again, with it being fall already, I am really into dishes that go with the season. I am excited to pick up some spaghetti squash and try out some new sauces (I usually just go the red sauce route). I came late to the spaghetti squash party, but boy am I glad to be here! Here are some good ones to share: here, here and here!
What advice would you give to your younger self?
I would tell younger me "be thankful for your discipline, you will be happy you have it later in life". Between learning from my mother and my endless hours of dance classes -- I have become very disciplined. My mother taught me to use every "spare" 5 minutes for something and she also taught me the importance of keeping a tidy household. Dance taught me the importance of being prompt, responsible, and focused. I think discipline has shaped who I am completely and although at the time I didn't think twice about it -- I am so glad that this is a major part of my character.
Do you have any goals for 2014?
Looking back on my 2013 goals, I am pretty proud of how well I did. I think a big one for 2014 will to focus on my finances and keep some realistic budgets and savings plans.
What are some of your favorite blogs?
For the most past, I truly just love following my friends' blogs. But overtime I have found some blogs that I cannot live without and they can be found here, here and here.
What is your favorite date night activity?
With SGT in law school, actual date nights feel few and far between. Most nights include his and her studying/blogging sessions paired with trying a new recipe and glass of wine. But if time was on our side, we love to get out and try new things that tie to the season. We are hoping to make it to a pumpkin patch soon, especially because we found a farm that does a zombie paintball hayride! Thankfully, SGT is always up for a fun time which means we will have endless amounts of blog material, right?
