DUCK

1) to stoop or bend suddenly, bob
2) to avoid or evade a blow, dodge
3) to plunge the whole body or the head momentarily (under water)

The first time I heard about a Tomato Battle was last year when my friend Kaitlyn battled in San Diego (remember her?). Unfortunately, by the time I found out about it, I had already missed it in Seattle for the year. I immediately added it to my bucket list, and patiently waited for this year!

Thankfully, the Tomato Battle came up on Living Social, which was not only a great reminder but a deal! So, naturally I bought a ticket right away and convinced a bestie do join in the fun.

I really cannot explain the battle to you without first saying, you have to try it! As disgusting as it sounds, it is a blast in the moment (and much less painful than the snowball fight). After we found ourselves ducking from the initial onslaught of tomatoes, the atmosphere quickly changed from action to comedy, as people were slipping and sliding while the tomatoes turned to a paste. Battling with a favorite recipe ingredient on a sunny day, really brings out the comradery in strangers and there were nothing but smiles to be seen.

I was thankful that Kaitlyn could teach me her ways and share some tips (like wear goggles and wear only things that you are willing to throw away after) because it made the event much more fun for me. (Oh! On a side note, one thing Katilyn did not warn Michelle and I about was that the Tomato Battle doubled as dating event. You were given a colored wristband depending on your relationship status. How hilarious of a story would that to be to tell to your future children...?!)

This year I have juked snowballs and dodged tomatoes...I wonder what the next thing will be that has me yelling, "DUCK!"
